Vidya Vikas Mandal has grown to a considerable size in the last 30 years. Shee Damodar college is the first institution that was started under the name of the Mandal in the year 1973. The philanthropic Kare house came forward to assist the establishment of a Law College in South Goa. The result was the establishment of G.R.Kare College of Law in the year 1979. The Damodar College was bifurcated in to Degree and Higher Secondary School and another philantropist, the Salgaocar house helped in the opening of the Ramacrisna Madeva Salgaocar Higher Secondary School. Recognising the needs of the distant learners, Shree Damodar College started a Study Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University which is catering the needs of about 1000 students every year. Later in the years the Mandal went on to start an English medium School named as Vidya Vikas Academy. Already the Damodar College and the Law College have own buildings and now the Academy shall have its own building in 2005. The Mandal also runs an Institute of Management and Training named after the founder President Late Shri H.M.N.Gaunekar. This institute is the only organisation in Goa which caters to the training needs of IFS officers in the country. It also acts as a study centre for Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.As the President of this great organisation “Vidya Vikas Mandal” for the last 25 years, I have witnessed substantial growth of this organisation. I wish that all the individual units become autonomous and see the mandal assumes the status of A Deemed University in the days to come. May the Lord of this region “Damodar” bless us in every activity we take up in the future.
