Mr. Ramnath Kare is the Chairman & Managing director of Kare Group of Companies, Goa, involved in the manufacture & marketing of pharmaceuticals.


Mr. Ramnath Kare

Mr. Kare is also a Director of Finolex Wire Products Ltd., & Member of the Goa Planning Board. He is presently the Chairman of the Goa State Council of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). Mr. Kare is the Past President of Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He was a Director of State Bank of India Funds Management Ltd., Goa Economic Development Corporation,& several other government bodies. Mr. Kare was also on the Board of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) (Western Region) and Besides his business interests, Mr. Kare is also actively involved in Social and Educational activities. For the past 23 years, he has been President of Vidya Vikas Mandal and during his tenure, the Society has registered astounding growth and development. One of his achievements is this beautiful Building Complex of G R College of Law, which was inaugurated by Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Minister for Law & Judiciary, Government of India.Mr. Kare has traveled widely in Europe, America & Asia on business and also with delegations of the Chamber and the Pharmaceutical Industry. Mr. Kare was a recipient of the “Business Manager of the Year” Award presented by Goa Management Association. He was also one of the businessmen honored by the then President of India, Late Giaini Zail Singh, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Goa’s Liberation. Mr. Kare was the recipient of the Dr. T M A Pai Foundation’s “Distinguished Achievement Award” at Manipal in January 2004.


Shri. Ganesh M. Daivajna

Shri. G. M. Daivajna is one of founder Members of Vidya Vikas Mandal, and is presently its Vice President. It was his untiring efforts, which made Damodar College a reality. A leading Chartered Accountant and Financial Consultant in South Goa, he was a Director of Maharashtra State Financial Corporation. He was also a Member of Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee of South Central Railways. He was Chairman of Goa Branch of I.C.A.I. He has been an Hon. Secretary of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a Member of Construction Committee of Gude Temple. He was also a Director of Goa Housing Board for two terms. Apart from being a keen sportsman, he takes active interest in social service and is an active member of Lions Club of Margao. He has served at various capacities at Club level and at District level. He was elected to the post of District Governor of Dist. 324-D2 in the year 2000-01. He was also treasurer of multiple district, 324. He has received Lion’s International President’s Medals & other awards. He has widely traveled and has represented Goa Chamber of Commerce, ICAI, etc. in many countries.


Shri.Shanu Pai Panandikar
M.A. (Eco)

Shri Shanu Pai Panandiker is a well-known Industrialist and is presently the Managing Director of Marpol Pvt. Ltd., an established manufacturer of High Tech Powder Coatings and Resins. He is a M.A. (Eco.) from University of Bombay.Before the family ventured into Powder Coatings and Resins, he was managing the family business of Rice and Oil Mill in Goa. His rich experience in commerce and trade helped him to nurture Marpol during the initial difficult times and steer the Company to its present status under the able guidance of Board of Directors. He is a Director in many other family business concerns.He is also actively associated with a number of well-known Social Shri Shanu Pai Panandiker Cultural, Educational and Religious Institutions in Goa.


Smt. Sheela H..N. Gaunekar
B.A(Hons);B.com,F.C.A,L.L.B(Special)

Smt. Sheela H. N. Gaunekar is a leading Chartered Accountant from South Goa, practicing for more than 35 years. She was the First Chairperson of Goa Branch of Western India Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants. She was the member of the Managing Committee of Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry. She is one of the Founder Members of Vidya Vikas Mandal and the wife of our founder President, Late Shri. H. M. N. Gaunekar. She has a record of being its Treasurer right from its inception. Education being one of her favourite subjects, she is the Chairperson of Vidya Vikas Academy, which runs ISCE school in Margao. Smt. Sheela H. N. Gaunekar B.A. (Hons); B.Com. F.C.A., She has widely travelled to attend Conferences as Member of L.L.B.(Special) Official Trade Delegation of the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry. She has also attended many International Conferences. Her reputation earned her a name in the Encyclopedia of Women in India, and also in the Who’s Who Yearbook.


Shri. Madhukar R. Mallya
B.Sc.(Hons)

Shri. Madukar R. Mallya ,product from Loyola, completed his B.Sc.(Hons.) from Chowgule College with Physics and Maths. After graduation, he joined his family business consisting of iron ore mining, ore handling & machinery hiring, farming and trading in fast moving consumer goods from Nestle, Agro Tech Foods and Gillette. He is now the Managing Director of his family businessHe was the President of all India apex body for Mining Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) for 2 years . He is presently the Co- Chairman of Committee on Mining and Environment (set up by Goa Mineral Ore Exporters Association) and on Managing Committee of Shri. Madhukar R. Mallya FIMI and GOA Mining Association. He is also joint secretary of the B.Sc.(Hons) Member of Board of Management of Vidya Vikas Mandal, a non-profit educational trust.


Shri. U.N. Bene
B.com, C.A


Shri U. N. Bene is one of the leading Chartered Accountants in South Goa. A scholar par excellence, he stood First Class First in Inter-Commerce, Karnatak University. He repeated his performance once again, by standing First Class First in B. Com. of Karnatak University, and won the Gangadhar Hanschetti Memorial Gold Medal, and the K. H. Kabbur Prize and also the Karnataka University Prize. Yet again, he also stood First in the C.A. Final Examination – an All India Level Achievement. He was awarded a Certificate of Merit, G. P. Kapadia Gold Medal, A. F. Ferguson Prize for the best paper on Auditing, N. M. Shah Prize for the best paper on Taxation, N. V. Desai Memorial Prize, and N. J. Shah Memorial Prize.Shri. U. N. Bene, Like most scholars, he shies away from publicity. He is active in B.Com. C.A social, educational and cultural life, but takes ample precautions to see that he and his contributions remain behind the scene. He is one of the Founder Members of Vidya Vikas Mandal and is a Member of the Board of Management.


Shri. Upendra K. Naik
B.E (Civil)

Shri. U. K. Naik, whom we call “Upendrabab” is indeed a Father figure in Vidya Vikas Mandal. After completing a Lycem course in Portuguese, he shifted to English medium education and completed his Inter Science from the prestigious St. Xavier’s College, Bombay. He completed his B.E. (Civil) from Walchang College of Engineering, Sangli. After his apprenticeship in a reputed Engineering firm in Bombay, he returned to Goa and started his own construction business. After a prolonged innings in business life, he retired from active business in 1979, and has now devoted his life to social, educational and cultural activities. Apart from being a Member of Board of Management, Vidya Vikas Mandal for several years, he is closely associated with Gomant Vidya Niketan, Mahila Nutan English High School, Margao, Goa, Hindu Association’s Sneha Mandir, Bandora and many other Social, Educational and Cultural organizations.


Shri. Vasant P. Virginkar
B.Com.


Shri Vassant P. Virgincar is graduated in Commerce from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune. After graduation, he joined M/s. P.G. Virgincar & Co., which was his family business dealing with Automobiles and Allied Products and were distributors of General Motors of U.S.A. for their Chevrolet vehicles which were imported from U.S.A. and Opel vehicles from West Germany. After liberation M/s P. G. Virgincar & Co have been dealers fro Fiat and Padmini cars of Premier Automobiles Ltd., Bombay. They also deal with light commercial vehicles of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Bombay. They also have petrol pumps and service stations. Shri. Vassant P. Virginkar B. Com. Lately, Shri Vassant Virgincar alongwith his brothers, has branched out into construction business.Shri Virgincar is an avid reader of books. He also takes active interest in social and cultural activities. He is a Founder Member of Lions Club of Margao and has been its past President. He is a Member of the Board of Management of Vidya Vikas Mandal.


Shri. Nanda S.Counto
B.E. (Civil), A.M.I.E.

Shri N. S. S. Counto is an Engineer by profession, and partner of Alcon Constructions, a firm well known throughout Goa for its excellence. M/s Alcon Constructions also owns a chain of hotels in North and South Goa. A technocrat, he has entered into a unique technical and marketing collaboration with the Associated Cement Companies Ltd., for the manufacture of cement. He also has a tie-up with ACC and Sesa Goa Ltd., for the manufacture of slag cement.Shri Counto is the Past Chairman of Builders Association of Goa, and is the member of the General Council of Builders’ Association, Goa Centre. A Founder Member of Vidya Vikas Mandal, he has its Vice-President in the past, and is a member of its Board of Management. He is also Treasurer of Managing Committee of Mushtfund High School, Panaji and a Trustee, of the Centre of Special Children (Disha).He has been recipient of “Udyog Rattan” award from the Institute of Economics Studies, and “Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award” from the Shiromani Institute, New Delhi. He has traveled widely both in India and abroad.


Shri. C.P. D'Costa

Shri C. P. D’Costa is a leading businessman of Margao, but he is a businessman with a difference. He has actively participated in the Liberation struggle of Goa. A follower of Mahatma Gandhi, he joined Congress at an early age and he still continues to be a Congressman. He has been the President of the Congress Committee of Varca, Orlim,Carmona and Cavelossim. He was the Vice-President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committeee, and the President of the South Goa District Congress (I) Committee. He was also a member of S.P.D.A., Margao, a Member of the Regional Transport Authority, South Goa, a member of the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Goa, and is a Member of the Board of Shri C. P. D’Costa Management, Vidya Vikas Mandal, Convenor of Railway Cell of ‘LOKMATA’, Advisor of Margao Sewa Association.


Shri. Ramkrishna V. Naik
C.A.

Shri R. K. Nayak, after 40 years of practice as a Chartered Accountant, took voluntary retirement from active service. He has now dedicated his entire time to educational, social and cultural activities. He has keen interest in the Goa Hindu Association, Bombay. It is due to his untiring efforts, which a home for senior citizens has materialized in the beautiful green valley of Bandora, called Sneha Mandir. He is still based in Bombay, but finds time to pay attention to his commitments in Goa. He is presently a Member of the Board of Management, Vidya Vikas Mandal.
